Underland

Vocal ensemble Shards, perform the world premiere of Underland, featuring a score by composer Hannah Peel adapted for choir and electronics by Chester Tribley and Bronte Tucker. The performance brings together choral voices, electronic sound and striking imagery drawn from Robert Petit’s 2025 film, based on Robert Macfarlane’s acclaimed book.

Peel’s score creates an immersive musical landscape, with Shards’ vocal ensemble bringing the film’s subterranean world to life in a live setting. The performance features singers Kate Huggett, Lucy Cronin, Rose Martin, Sarah Latto, Jack Lawrence-Jones, Edwin Hughes, Ben Thompson and Michael Alchin, with Sarah Latto also serving as choir leader.

The film Underland was directed by Robert Petit and produced by Darren Aronofsky, Ari Handel, Lauren Greenwood and Jessica Harrop. It is a production of Sandbox Films, Spring Films, Protozoa Pictures and Planet Octopus Studios, based on Macfarlane’s 2019 book exploring the hidden worlds beneath the Earth’s surface.
