3 Evenings – Somerset House Studios
3 Evenings brings Somerset House Studios’ distinctive approach to interdisciplinary experimentation beyond its usual home, with three nights of live performance experiments, newly commissioned works and interactive installations at Wapping Hydraulic Power Station.
Reimagining the landmark 1966 event 9 Evenings: Theatre and Engineering, the programme explores what it means to perform with technology today. Six decades after the original brought artists and engineers together in a pioneering exploration of new technologies, artists from the Studios community and international guests continue its spirit of radical experimentation across performance, moving image, sound and digital art.
The programme features Ayoung Kim, dmstfctn, Gary Zhexi Zhang, Klara Kofen and Cameron Graham, Gazelle Twin, Holly Blakey and Tai Shani, Jenkin van Zyl and Agnieszka Szczotka, Keiken, Lawrence Lek, Ligia Lewis, Louis Morlæ, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Nina Davies and Zein Majali, SERAFINE 1369, Team Rolfes and Xin Liu. Alongside the live performances, the programme includes world premieres of newly commissioned interactive installations by Ayoung Kim, Keiken and Xin Liu, as well as a reimagined work by Louis Morlæ, presented across all three nights.
Taking place in a former hydraulic power station, the event extends beyond the live programme through 3ETV, an interactive television channel and evolving digital artwork. Developed in partnership with HEK (House of Electronic Arts, Basel), M+, Onassis ONX and Pioneer Works, 3ETV brings the project to an international audience and creates a continuing digital dimension to the performances.
